Course Description:

PCC-III Control - Operation, Programming and Trouble Shooting (AP-01)

This class covers the features and functions of the PCC III Multiple Loop Controller by providing lectures, discussions and “hands-on” training exercises.  The class includes hardware and software functional overview, front face editor menu operations, PC3 Edit, and troubleshooting.  The class includes introduction to “Blockware” modification and configuration techniques.  The class uses the Boiler Submaster and Draft Control Configurations as bases for discussion.  Configuration such as fully metered combustion control will also be discussed.  Electric actuator setup and trouble shooting is included in the training exercises.

PWC - Operation, Programming and Trouble Shooting (AP-02)

This class covers the features, functions, wiring and programming of the PWC (Plant Wide Controller) by providing lectures, discussions and “hands-on” training exercises.   The class includes hardware and software functional overview, front panel edit menu operation, PWC Edit, installation & wiring.  The class includes introductions to “Blockware” and Display, Chart and Menu modification techniques, and advanced boiler sequencing configuration.  Example applications will also be reviewed.

UtilitySaver Control Systems - Installation and Commissioning (AP-03)

This class covers the installation and commissioning of a Parallel Positioning Combustion Control System with Variable Speed Drive (VSD) controlled FD Fan and Oxygen Trim.  The class includes classroom review of the application and equipment installation. The successful student will be able to supervise the installation and independently commission an UtilitySaver Boiler Control System.

BurnerMate TS Control Systems - Installation and Commissioning (AP-04)

This class covers the installation and commissioning of a Fully Metered Combustion Control System with a Variable Speed Drive (VSD) controlled FD Fan and Oxygen Trim.  The class includes review of the application, equipment installation and programming through the touch screen.  The successful student will be able to supervise the installation and independently commission a BurnerMate TS Boiler Control System.  Installation of the Hawk upgrade is covered in detail.

BurnerMate Universal - Installation, Configuration, and Commissioning (AP-05)

This class covers the installation, set up and commissioning of the new BurnerMate Universal Control System.  The installation of field devices and their functions will be thoroughly reviewed.  Flame Safeguard, combustion control strategies, draft control and drum level control systems will be discussed along with the final tuning of the PID control.  The successful student will be able to install, configure and commission a BMU Control System.

Boiler Instruments Commissioning (BI-02)

This class provides basic product training for the Draft Controller (JC-22D), Flue Gas Opacity Monitor (JC-30D), Flue Gas Temperature Monitor (JC-15D) and

PCC-III Based Oxygen Trim with Link Trim Actuator (LTA).  Class material includes boiler operation principles that are relevant to instrument installation and operation.   “Hands-on” training exercises will cover installation, wiring and commissioning requirements.  Miscellaneous field equipment, such as “Smart” and analog transmitters and electric and pneumatic actuators, calibration and wiring will also be discussed.

Fuel Oil Handling Systems - Design, Installation and Start-up (FO-01)

The class provides training for Preferred Utilities pump sets, D3 and D5 Tank Gauges and fuel oil system components.  Basic design considerations and “Rules of Thumb” for fuel oil systems are discussed to provide the knowledge base required for successful system troubleshooting.  “Hands-On” training exercises will cover installation, wiring, PWC operation and programming and other commissioning requirements.  The student will learn to calculate system suction and supply pressures and to properly size the required piping.
