Preferred Instruments was developed through two acquisitions. The first acquisition was the Instrument division of General Controls in May of 1964. The second acquisition was that of Reliance Instruments in 1978. Preferred Instruments manufactures microprocessor based controllers, instruments, and electric actuators for combustion and process applications. Preferred Instruments also manufactures oil tank gauging and leak detection equipment. A major component of the Instrument group sales is from control systems integration and personal computer based Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition systems.  This includes; system design, engineering drawings, manuals, system fabrication, custom software, configuration, test, and field start up. Preferred selects and supplies transmitters, recorders, and valves to provide a complete system with single source responsibility. Flame safeguard components were brought into the Preferred family with the 2007 acquisition of GN Electronics. Preferred Instruments has the experience and expertise to develop products for industrial burners and boilers flame safeguards, industrial process optimization, and process controls.

W. N. Best Combustion which was founded in 1890 and purchased by Preferred Utilities in 1972, manufactures Industrial #2 #6 oil and gas burners, along with specialty systems and burners for thermal decomposition of sludge and contaminated petroleum products for product regeneration and heat recovery. W. N. Best specializes in sulfuric acid sludge decomposition and elemental sulfuric acid production. In 2002, W.N Best introduced its new, industrial, high efficiency, low emissions burner for #2 #6 oil and gas.  This low emissions burner utilizes state of the art control and mechanical technology to produce lownox combustion at the highest efficiencies possible in the market place today.

Preferred's Belief and Statement of Faith

"When a man's ways please the Lord, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him. Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues without right. A man's heart deviseth his way: but the Lord directeth his steps."

Proverbs 16:7-9
